Ray on Arm-based Ampere A1 Oracle Cloud

How severe does this issue affect your experience of using Ray?

  • High: It blocks me to complete my task.

I want to use Ray for my thesis project, Oracle Cloud offers a very kind “Always Free” account with the ability to provide Arm-based Ampere A1 cores. Using a Ray Cluster would allow me to complete my project. However, it seems like it’s not possible to install Ray on this architecture, I tried both by using your Docker images and installing it directly on the VM instance.

I searched for a solution everywhere, I even saw a post related here, but could not find a solution, if there is one. I believe there is as I have read some people have been able to build the library for this, however I was not able to replicate.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Even if that direction is to dessist from the idea of using free ARM machines :frowning:

@VictorCanLima you might find this thread contains some information: Can ray be installed on arm linux os? - #5 by Peter_Pirog

unfortunately due to limited bandwidth Ampere A1 cores might not be supported, but let’s know if you get it working by building from source.
